Treatment of Acid Reflux

Heartburn may be the most common physical problem known to man, at least in America where we eat just about anything at anytime. This article will take a brief look at the symptoms and treatment of acid reflux disease and hopefully it will help you to gain victory over your suffering. I believe if you follow what is here you can achieve relief.

For the severest acid reflux cases, or the more serious GERD, these over-the-counter remedies will not work. You need to look out for any side effects that may occur if you have been using antacids for a long period of time.

If your physician has diagnosed you with acid reflux then it’s recommended that you visit him on a regular basis even if you think that the problem is gone. Also, it’s very important that you tell your healthcare provider what herbal treatments you were using to cure your condition because this will help make a correct evaluation.

The treatment of acid reflux may be dependent on if the stomach acid is volatile. Sometimes it ends up volatile, for whatever reason, and you need to calm it down. I’ve found that vinegar works well because of the natural enzymes. Just add more vinegar based food to your diet and you’ll be all set.

One can always deal with the gastric acid reflux disease in an effective manner, that is to say, if the disease has not reached a very bad stage. If you remain aware of yourself and employ proper measures to tackle this problem, you will get well soon.

As well as using herbal teas, another well known herbal treatment for acid reflux is chicory root which can also help to treat other digestive problems as well. This particular herb can easily be found in either your local health food store or grocery store as well as being available for purchase online.

The most common heartburn and acid reflux symptoms in women are the same for men, other than those found during the pregnancy. These would include, but not limited to, a burning sensation behind the chest plate that intensifies when bending over or stooping down, problems swallowing, an irritated throat and a scratchy sounding voice, a gassy feeling coupled with burping and an upset stomach.

Another option of treatment for acid reflux disease is vinegar. It has natural enzymes that calm the stomach acid. Obviously you can’t just drink bottles of vinegar, you need to add it into your diet. The vinegar based products like salad dressing and ketchup that you add in, the less likely you’re going to experience any form of acid reflux.

Creating home remedies for acid reflux is easy if you have the required ingredients. Things like cabbage, pineapples, papaya and vegetables are usually important elements that are used to make ginger root, apple cider vinegar and things like that. It should be reminded that these home remedies may only fix your problems temporary. If you are still facing acid reflux issues, then you are suggested to seek doctors’ advice for long term treatment.

Heartburn is a very unpleasant condition but if you’re patient, you can forget about the symptoms very fast. I recommend you try these herbal acid reflux remedies but as always, make sure you consult your doctor first before proceeding.

For The Sake of Your Quality of Life You Need To Get Into A Positive Frame Of Mind!

How to get in to a positive frame of mind.

Life is not all plain sailing. Indeed, hardship, trials and tribulations are part of parcel of being. Encountering difficulty is not a bad thing –what matters is the way we deal with it. A positive frame of mind is important for so many reasons. Positive thinking is proven to enhance performance in productivity and quality. We tend to think more and actively and perform better when we are feeling positive and well.

There are biological explanations of this. A positive frame of mind is due to enhanced levels of neuro transmitters like serotonin that regulate the performance capabilities of the brain. The knock effects of a positive frame of mind also include better health – not just better mental health but better in the physical sense. This is due to the boost to the immune system that a positive frame of mind can give you from positive hormones .

The reverse is also true, when we are depressed we are far more liable to contracting other diseases and mental health issues. Our relationships with others deteriorate, we begin to think irrationally and our productivity can ground to a direct halt. In short this is a frame of mind that is best to avoid at all costs. Feeling unhappy from time to time is not unusual- but how we choose to deal with a problem comes from our default state of mind.

A positive mental attitude is also about giving you a can do attitude. People who think positively are far more likely to see challenges rather than problems or opportunities rather than difficulties. For instance, entrepreneurs who are successful often are because they are able to spot opportunities for growth in a market which others only see problems in. The positive mental attitude of the successful businessmen means that opportunity becomes a reality ; because they also have the drive and motivation to succeed and make their dream come true . So as you can see there is much to be gained from a positive mental attitude. The problem for a lot of people is in developing one in the first place.

It is true that some people seem to be more positive than others. Having a so called ‘ sunny disposition’ implies that there is something inherent or genetic to account for a frame of mind. While this may be true in some cases it is also true that a positive frame of mind is not an attribute for a privlleged few. It is something that is open to anybody. Anyone, that is, who is prepared to put the necessary work in to attain it.

Developing a positive frame of mind is not some new aged fad. For centuries religious men and scholars alike searched for and developed techniques to harness an inner harmony. While this may have begun to make one closer to god the essence of this idea is just as relevant today. That a positive frame of mind makes us closer to the divine while a negative frame of mind can only lead us in to ways of being that are a detriment to our lives. Monks realised this long ago which is why they devote themselves to a life of abstinence and mental and spiritual fulfilment.

One of the best ways to determine your frame of mind is to think about how you are with other people. A great way to do this is to picture how you behave towards people you do not know. Are you outgoing and open to meeting and talking with others? Or are you insular and afraid. Believe it or not one of the best ways to overcome a negative frame of mind is to change your attitude to the world around you and that means the people in it as well. If you are usually uncomfortable around others then try this experiment. One night force yourself to strike up a conversation at random in a public place. Do not be concerned about how you look or appear – or what you talk about.

A reference about the weather or anything will do. Just try it and note how you feel afterwards
You see, the way you are with others will affect the opportunities you get offered. Think about it in this way – who is the most likely to get the furthest in a workplace between two people of equal ability and experience except for one difference- One is uptight and ill at ease with others around them the other easy going comfortable in the company of others. If I was the boss of those two people I know which one I would pick for a promotion.

So really work on adopting a positive frame of mind and you will benefit big time.

The Power In A Gathering Of Women

Forget “fight or flight” as the only duo of responses in the face of stress. For women, there’s a third response: “befriend”. A landmark UCLA study turned five decades of stress research on its head with the revelation that a cascade of brain chemicals gives women a larger behavioral repertoire when confronted with stress. The hormone oxytocin is released as part of the stress response in women. It controls the fight/flight response and, instead, encourages her to tend children and gather with other women.

Accordingly to co-researcher Dr. Laura Cousino Klein, now assistant professor of bio-behavioral health at Penn State, the study suggests that this “tending and befriending” response to oxytocin produces a calming effect. Although it will take new studies to reveal all the ways in which oxytocin encourages women to care for children and band together, it might also explain why women consistently outlive men.

I have addressed numerous women’s conferences and corporate networks of women and I can attest to the observable behavior that participants leave these sessions feeling stronger, encouraged, and positive. I believe they also leave healthier. The famed Nurses Health Study from Harvard Medical School found that the more friends people have, they less likely they are to develop physical ailments and the more likely they are to cope better with challenges.

Sadly, today’s busy agendas often find women canceling the most positive and healthy thing they can do: gather with other women to engage in the kind of “rapport” and “report” talk that hallmark feminine conversations. The corporate women’s networks that generate the most return for the time and money investment allow for the nuts-and-bolts training needed for the business while also creating plenty of opportunity for mentoring, problem-solving and the informal sharing of personal issues.

Create a gathering of women and stand back. The energy reborn from conversation, caring, compassion and concern can move a community, a business, and a nation into a higher place.

Treatment of an Unstable Knee – How to Survive Knee Instability Problems – Braces For Support

How is your knee stability currently?

Do you have issues with it being unstable?

Here are two cases studies that show the effects of treatment of an unstable knee. John and Pete were both in their 50s when they had their unstable knee diagnosed as a tear in their anterior cruciate ligaments. Each of them liked sports and was active since childhood. Both of them had years to work before their retirement and needed to be able to walk so that they could get on with their activities of daily living. Neither of them had desk jobs.

Both John and Pete chose different treatments for their unstable knee problem, also known as a trick knee. The trick knee had a habit of giving out when they were walking, although it was not always such a painful condition. Still, both men knew that the problem had to be addressed.

How John Treated his Unstable Knee

John went to see an orthopedic surgeon at the urging of his doctor. The surgeon explained to him that the trick knee was due to a torn ligament and that it could be corrected with surgery. He explained that the surgery would keep him off work for a year and advised him to seek out disability. John had disability insurance and decided that he would go along with this recommendation. He took a leave of absence from his job as a carpenter and underwent the surgery.

The surgery for the unstable knee was successful in repairing the ligament. John was in the hospital a few days, during which he was in pain but given a morphine pump. When he got home, he had the morphine pump for a week and was then given a painkiller and asked to rest his knee for a few months.

After a few weeks, he gradually began to feel less pain but was growing more and more dependent on the pain killers. He began rehabilitation. It took him longer to get back to work than normal and he found that he was on disability for over a year before returning to work, due to other complications with his health. During this time, he developed a dependency to painkillers.

How Pete Treated his Unstable Knee

Pete did not have disability insurance and was worried about taking so much time off work. He too had the option of surgery to repair the ligament but opted to use a knee brace for his knee. He realized that this helped to solve his knee instability problems, because his knee did not give out nearly as much.

Using knee braces and on occasion, over the counter medication, he controlled the problem. His physician also suggested that he lose some weight, which he did.

A Reflection on the Treatment Options for an Unstable Knee

Today, John is back at work and his knee feels pretty good. But the problem is that his other knee is starting to give him problems now. He found it painfully obvious that he was financially stressed after taking a year off of work. Not only that, it was hard to get back into the swing of things after such a long break. In addition, he found that it was very difficult to kick the painkiller habit. He is opting for more conservative treatment with the other knee and will not undergo knee surgery, despite the fact that the surgery on his other knee was deemed a success.

Pete still wears the knee brace and takes aspirin once in a while. He also began a swimming program and after working out for 2 months he lost 12 pounds. He feels in better shape than ever and the trick knee does not give him much of a problem at all.

If you feel like one or both of your knees is unstable, then you should consider taking your stability to the next level with a low profile brace. Knee supports can greatly add to the stability of your knee and can have you looking back six months from now, wondering what you ever did without one

6 Steps to a Proper Feng Shui Bed

During Feng Shui consultations, clients frequently ask me to evaluate the Feng Shui of their bed and share the key factors to look for when considering the purchase of a new bed.

We all know how much better we feel after a good night’s sleep. Following these tips for a proper Feng Shui bed can help you increase your energy and healing opportunities. You’ll see improvements in every aspect of your life, from your career to your health and your love life.

Let the chi circulate: An appropriate bed should have legs, ideally on each corner, elevating it above the floor. This allows the air and chi to circulate beneath it, assisting with the healing nature of rest. This simple act of enabling the chi to circulate under the bed can help with fertility and also health issues.

Removing all items from under the bed also helps the chi to circulate. If you need that space for storage – perhaps because you live in a small apartment with few closets – you can store linens and clothing in well-organized boxes or a trundle drawer. Avoid storing weapons, sharp objects or anything metal underneath the bed.

When you place the bed in the room, it should be positioned so that the chi can flow around both sides. This article explains the command position, which is the ideal location for a bed.

Size of the bed: A Queen bed is recommended over a King or California King size bed for two reasons. A King size bed leaves no room for upgrading. Since you’ve already reached the maximum level, the only way to move is downward, so your next bed might be to move to a single bed.

Additionally, a King size mattress typically rests on two box springs, which can suggest a separation between partners who sleep in the bed together.

Proper Headboard: A headboard in Feng Shui represents protection. It not only provides the possibility of a relationship, it also affects the stability in an existing relationship. The headboard should be firmly affixed to the bed frame and made of one solid piece of material, either wood or fabric. Avoid rods or headboards that split in the middle.

Footboard: Footboards aren’t necessary. Men typically don’t like footboards; some say it feels like being in a coffin. If you do wish to have a footboard, it should be no higher than the mattress. A taller footboard can limit your travel opportunities.

Styles of Bed: Murphy beds, futons and day beds provide a temporary feeling, and therefore are recommended only for use in guest rooms.

A four-poster bed should fit within the space. I’ve seen many beds that really require a much larger space than what they have. Canopy beds are fine –again, space permitting. They may provide an added sense of protection for some. Keep the top of the canopy clean; don’t allow it to become a dust magnet.

Price: The price of the bed is not always a reflection of good Feng Shui. One of my clients recently purchased a $20,000 bed, only to discover it provided very poor Feng Shui and could be a contributing factor in a troubled relationship.

In other words, separate the price from the Feng Shui value of a bed. Purchase a bed that is comfortable and feels right to you. Regardless of cost, your bed should help you achieve your goal of a quality, restful night’s sleep, where you awake feeling refreshed and renewed.

The Fallout of the Foreclosure Crisis

Buying a house you couldn’t afford, accepting a subprime mortgage from a lender, losing your job, or experiencing health problems are just a few of the reasons that people can end up in foreclosure. Regardless of the reason for their money troubles, thousands of people are losing their homes, damaging their credit, and facing the possibility of homelessness. While foreclosure can clearly have a huge impact on economic health, they can also threaten a person’s mental well-being. Depression, anxiety disorders, divorce, and violence are just some of the more insidious aftershocks that can be felt in communities all around the country.

As homeowners struggle to cover their mortgage payments, utility bills, childcare costs and food bills, the accompanying tension and anxiety can wear down a person’s ability to cope. Prolonged periods of stress and hardship can quickly turn into an anxiety disorder or to full-blown depression.

Depression is often characterized by physical and mental fatigue, lack of ambition, sadness, and worst of all—hopelessness. This lack of hope can make it extremely difficult to look at one’s situation with a clear head. Feelings of shame and failure can overwhelm a person and convince her that the situation will never get better. Negative thoughts can ambush her psyche, dispensing blame and criticism at every turn. She may think “I failed. Here’s proof that I can’t take care of myself. I’m a disappointment and a loser.”

Depression can also cause inaction. If a person has lost her job or has other personal problems mounting on top of the foreclosure, she may simply stop trying to pick up the pieces, and let the dark cloud wash over her. Her destructive thoughts will inhibit her ability to deal with her problems head-on. If she needs to find a better paying job or look for a place to live, the task may seem monumental. This paralysis inevitably leads to worse financial problems, leading to lower self esteem. Her reduced self esteem only makes it that much harder to move onward and upward, and so the cycle continues.

There’s also embarrassment and the feeling that no one will want to help her. Believing that she doesn’t deserve to be helped, she doesn’t contact the bank for assistance. She then misses the window of opportunity to save her home.

Along with depression, struggling homeowners may find themselves turning to food, alcohol or drugs to deal with the stress. Others will turn to gambling with the hopes that they will win enough money to get the house back. These self-destructive behaviors of course only exacerbate the problem, and can have a huge impact on families.

Anxious children, marital spats, separation, and divorce are all common side effects of the foreclosure problem. Unfortunately, things can escalate quite quickly from partners simply blowing off steam, to full-on domestic violence.

As the number of foreclosures continues to rise, the number of abuse cases quickly follow suit. One national survey has cited “financial issues” as a major contributing factor to the increase in violence in homes across America, and Brian Narney from the National Network to End Domestic Violence said that the financial stress in an economic crisis is “not a cause of domestic violence, but it can intensify it.”

While some people turn their frustration outward, others turn on themselves. With no hope on the horizon, some homeowners choose to end their own lives rather than endure any more pain.

There have already been a few cases of suicide attempts among homeowners facing foreclosure, including a 91 year old woman from Ohio who shot herself before facing eviction. There was also an Oregon couple who were days away from losing their home when they killed themselves and their three dogs via carbon monoxide poisoning.

A study conducted in Australia has determined that “economic trends are closely associated with suicide risk, with men showing a heightened risk of suicide in the face of economic adversity.” A California psychologist also noted that “one’s house is very much a projection of one’s self. To have a home taken away is tantamount to having part of yourself taken away.”

The picture is indeed bleak, but it doesn’t have to be. There are options available for homeowners who are struggling to make their mortgage payments, such as refinancing or getting an extension on their loan. If you’re facing possible foreclosure, it’s critical that you contact your lender right away. As for taking care of your mental health, there are resources available to help. See the continuation of the article, titled “Dealing with the Emotional Aftermath of Foreclosure” for more information.
