What The Body Goes Through During A Cleanse or Detox

No two people are alike. The frequency, severity of the symptoms you’ll encounter during a cleanse or detox will be completely different from anyone else’s. You can’t really compare yourself to others. Once you get through a cleanse you’ll be so happy knowing you gave your body, mind and spirit a wonderful gift…you’ve only got one body so take good care of it.

When anyone goes through any sort of a cleansing period or detox your body is going to go through some changes, some would go as far to call it a crises otherwise known as The Herxheimer Reaction (Herx). This reaction occurs when large quantities of toxins are released into the body due to detoxification.

The more toxins there are to eliminate the more severe the affects will be during the detox or cleansing process. No matter how mild or severe, the reaction is an indication that the process of cleansing and detoxification is working and that your body is cleaning itself of impurities, toxins and imbalances.

Reactions may occur immediately others within several days or not till even several weeks later.

Once a detox has been started you may feel worse and therefore think that the treatment is not working but it’s quite the opposite, these reactions are signs that the treatment IS working. The faster it’s able to do that, the faster you’ll feel much better.

Some people will feel cold/flu or hangover like symptoms during the first few days of “housecleaning” because your body is purging toxins into the blood stream for elimination but usually pass in a few days. On rare occasions, they may last several weeks. This is the point at which many people stop a detox but know that these symptoms should be only temporary lasting only a few days to a week.

There’s a wide variety of reactions that could manifest during a cleanse/detox, the most common are:

Cold or flu-like symptoms
Diarrhea
Extreme fatigue/restlessness
Cramps
Headache
Aches, Pains
Arthritic flair up
Insomnia
Nausea
Sinus congestion
Fever/chills
Frequent urination and/or urinary tract discharges
Drop in blood pressure
Skin eruptions, including: boils, hives, and rashes.
Mood swings
Anxiety

The best way to get rid of these symptoms is to drink plenty of water, herbal teas, and no sugar added fruit juices to help the body eliminate released toxins. Avoid overeating during , eating only light meals that are easy digested.

You may notice while going through the cleansing process that it may bring about past conditions. People often forget the diseases or injuries they have had in the past, but are usually reminded during a cleanse, this is also very normal.

It’s important to be kind and really nurture yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically. Meditation and light exercise such as yoga can help to manage some of these symptoms. Massages, you may find to be also beneficial. Ultimately you are the best judge of your body, listen to it.

When the cleansing process is over, you’ll feel more energized, light and healthier than you have in a long, long time. Your body will thank you!

Always ensure your health by having a thorough medical check up, consult your healthcare provider BEFORE taking any course of action!

Happy cleansing!

Massage – Before, During And After Migraine

There are many different types of headache, such as cluster headaches and migraine. However, the vast majority of headaches are caused by muscular tension with the pain ranging from mild to severe. Before rushing for the painkillers, try using a head massage, this is very effective treatment for tension headaches.  It not only eases the pain, but can also help re-educate the body so that it has a more relaxed response to stress and does not automatically tense up.

The agonising pain associated with migraine has been reported for centuries.  Whilst many studies have been performed, migraines are a poorly understood condition affecting millions.  Massage therapy has long been described as a non-invasive way to manage pain and bring about some degree of relief for the migraine sufferer.

Migraines can attack for a variety of reasons, including things like hormones, stress, hunger, weather changes, visual or auditory stimuli, change in sleep patterns, medications, certain smells, certain foods and additives or allergies.

Typically, migraines are treated with prescription medications.  However, improper or prolonged use of medications can actually perpetuate the pain.  The best treatment for migraines is promoting an optimal environment.

How Can Massage Help?

Massage, coupled with an in-depth look into lifestyle habits and environmental causes with positive actions to take control over triggers, can alleviate pain, decrease the duration or intensity of pain – even eliminate the migraine.

Headache treatments are best done with your partner and as touch is the language of lovers, enjoying massage with your partner will not only reduce or alleviate your headache but add another dimension to your relationship , becoming part of intimate exchange and a special way of spending time together. Skin Care During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time for pure bliss. However, it does have its share of petty annoyances like morning sickness and skin problems. The skin develops acne and you are helpless because you cannot even use strong acne treatments and powerful ingredients to correct the situation. However, what you can do is to follow a gentle and efficient skin care routine during pregnancy.

The majority of cosmetics have ingredients like petrolatum, paraffin and mineral oil. The problem is that these ingredients are not effective at moisturizing your skin because your skin cannot absorb them. Cosmetic companies know this but they still continue to use these ingredients because they are inexpensive and the majority of people do not know that they are actually harmful to your skin.

Another review was from a customer who developed an uncomfortable rash when she used a very expensive cosmetic product. The company who made this cream that gave her a rash is called the Allergan Company. Allergan makes a lot of products including those for people who wear contact lenses.

Every pregnant woman who experiences, either skin discoloration or skin rashes, will not have the same experience. Some women will suffer from issues they already have with their skin. While other pregnant women will be facing new issues, they haven’t experienced before. Either way, when there is a doubt about treatment feel free to get help with the problem.

Pregnant women often experience skin darkening, or discolored skin. This is in fact a common occurrence during pregnancy. The reason for this experience has to do with the hormones in a pregnant woman’s body. Typically hormones will fluctuate during pregnancy. In some scenarios, hormones will simply increase.

When they increase, skin issues are often seen. The woman’s skin can appear discolored, or even darker than normal. These areas of discoloration can be noticed on different areas of the woman’s body, and not simply her face. Other areas affected by discoloration, are the nipples, navel, and belly. This condition is characterized by lighter skin in one area, and darker skin in other areas.

For some women, their face care tactics will be against dry skin. This type of skin has a difficult time holding moisture. Unfortunately, for these pregnant women, healthy skin needs a fair amount of moisture. In these particular instances, the woman needs to find soaps and lotions that have additional moisture ingredients.

These types of ingredients will help the skin appear more natural. It will have the healthy glow that pregnant women are known for. For other women their skin care concerns involve particularly oily skin. There are two considerations for pregnant women with oily skin.

The first is that they need skin products that help to rid the skin of excess oils. Our skin has natural oils in it. But for people troubled with oily skin, they have more oil than normal. Finding products, like a good exfoliating soap, can help in this process. Once the skin sheds this extra oil, it begins to appear more natural.

How to Control Weight Gain During Pregnancy

It’s a fact that women gain weight during pregnancy. You are growing another human being who, in the end, usually weight anywhere from six to nine pounds when he or she is born. The saying “eating for two” is a myth. You only really need to eat a few hundred more calories than you did before you were pregnant.

Most women who have an average weight will should gain 25-30 pounds when they are pregnant. Where does all that weight go? Well, the baby weighs about eight pounds and the placenta and amniotic fluid weigh about 4 pounds. We are up to 12 pounds. The breasts get bigger and the fat stored for breastfeeding and delivery equal to about seven pounds. Your blood supply will add about four pounds and your uterus increasing weighs anywhere from two to five pounds. That right there is 25 to 28 pounds of added weight during pregnancy. Experts say women generally gain two to four pounds during their first trimester and one pound a week through your second and third trimesters. Of course if you are having twins, you will gain just a bit more because of the additional fetus.

Eating a healthy diet is a great way to not gain more weight than is necessary. Eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. It is important to eat just as healthy as you did before you became pregnant. Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. Choose low-fat dairy products and control those cravings for sweet snacks and other high calorie foods. Exercising is another great way to control the weight gain. Walking and swimming are good low-impact exercises to do while you are pregnant. Be sure to talk with your doctor about starting an exercise routine, so nothing goes wrong.

Often weight gain during pregnancy scares many women and they try to lose the weight. This is not safe. Both mother and baby need certain nutrients to stay healthy. One way to ensure that you and your child are getting proper nutrition is to take a multivitamin or prenatal vitamin while you are pregnant. Multivitamins give you added nutrients that are sometimes missed n our diets. Folic acid is especially important to women who are pregnant. It reduces the chance of the baby getting spina bifida, where the brain and the spine do not form correctly. Make sure you talk with your doctor about which type of multivitamin is good for you.
Gaining a bit of weight during pregnancy is natural. There are risks involved if you gain more than you should. The baby could become too large or trouble with breastfeeding. You may also retain that weight after giving birth and have higher weights with your later pregnancies.

If you stick to a healthy diet and moderate, low-impact exercise you will stay within the healthy range of weight gain. Once the baby is born, most women want to shed those extra 25 pounds. The best way to do this is eat a healthy, balance diet and continue with an exercise program to build lean muscle. Building lean muscle will help you to burn more calories and get back to the weight you were before your pregnancy.
