How to Fight Childhood Obesity (Weight Loss, Nutrition, and Multivitamin)

The United States has seen a large jump in the number of obese people over the last forty years. According to the Body Mass Index (BMI), a metric for gauging body fat, 63% of Americans are overweight. 31% of Americans are obese, and 3.8 million Americans weigh over 300 pounds. The cost for maintaining the healthcare for a large number of overweight Americans is astronomic. This is due to many diseases being connected to obesity including: diabetes, cancer, depression, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

Yet, even more disturbing is the rate at which childhood obesity is rising. This dangerous trend is speeding the spread of many diseases in a lower age bracket. The number of heart attacks for people under 30 has risen significantly over the past five years. Many children now have cholesterol counts that were only seen in much older patients. This trend of childhood obesity, although starting in America, is spreading around the world. The amount of obese children could lead to a global pandemic of type 2 diabetes.

A new study has also found that the amount of fat cells in an adult body is equal to the amount of fat cells in the body when a person is eighteen years of age. This explains the problems that people, who were obese as children, have managing their weight later in life. It also shows the importance of helping children to control their weight and establish healthy lifestyles.

There are ways that parents, who have obese children, can help them. Here are some suggestions.

Be an example – Many studies have linked a connection between overweight parents passing their poor dieting practice onto their children. As a parent it is important that you set the example to your children of how to have a proper diet. This will require more work in the kitchen, and the preparation of more home cooked meals. Fast food is often a quick way to add large amounts of fats and sugars into your diet. Even if you have a busy schedule, there are many solutions and ways that people can plan out meals as a family. Not only will eating healthy meals increase the health of your child, but studies have shown that eating meals together as a family helps the child’s social and behavioral development.

Don’t be overbearing – Although it is a good idea to limit the amount of sugary food a child has, it isn’t a good idea to cut them off cold turkey. One thing that parents often forget is that their children, although overweight, are still children. Not giving them any sugary food won’t help them to make good nutritional decisions, but rather just eliminates the chance to help them learn to eat in moderation. Children can be both children and healthy. Your child doesn’t live in a bubble don’t feed them like they do.

Pay attention to your child’s mental health – Depression and anxiety disorders are growing in children and teenagers. One of the common side effects of these symptoms is to over eat, which causes more anxiety and depression. Your child’s over eating could be a sign of a more serious disorder, and solving that disorder will help solve the obesity.

Promote healthy practices – Help your children to find ways to have physical exercise. Also promote proper dental hygiene, and personal hygiene. Another good idea is to have your children take a good multivitamin. Even if you are giving them a wide variety of healthy foods in a nutritional diet, it is difficult to provide a growing child with all the nutrients they need. Helping them to form that habit of taking a good multivitamin will improve their health, and nutritional habits. Those habits will help them to control their weight, and to live better lives.

Childhood obesity is a problem that can’t be ignored. Yet, people can make a large difference in this problem if they will make some simple adjustments in their daily lives. Weight loss can be a daunting task, but little steps will make a big difference in the long run.

Nutrition Health With Your Weight Loss Diet

If you are overweight and are prone to overeat through a constant feeling of hunger, it may be that you are not hungry for just food, but your body may actually be hungry for essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, oils, protein and other nutrients that are important for proper and healthy body function.

Power Plate machines use the principles of Acceleration Training exercise which uses vibration to stimulate the muscles. These vibrations are transferred to the muscles in the body causing them to contract rapidly in reflex action, making them work harder. By assuming various positions on the Power Plate, you can stimulate different muscle groups more effectively than standard resistance training. For example, according to trainer, Zak, holding a squat for one minute on the Power Plate is equivalent to doing 100 squats. Greater results can also be achieved in just one to two short sessions a week. In fact, one of their clients dropped two dress sizes in less than 20 sessions for her wedding.

More refined techniques of walking to lose weight include jogging, power walking, treadmill walking and running. The calories burned in each of these activities vary, but the core concept that works for everyone here is: if you do it regularly, you will lose weight!

At first, start slow and walk for ten minutes of so at a normal pace. You can actually hurt yourself by walking if you are real out of shape! Your knees and feet may hurt a bit at first – if that happens, take a day off. You don’t want to discourage yourself at the outset.

It could be your marriage lined up or some other special occasion as important as a wedding – where in you need to look your best. But what would happen in case you have stored a lot of fat which is making you look absolutely out of shape. You look awful in the prettiest dress that you have. And the worse is that you have to struggle to even fit into it. In situation like this the obvious thing is to loose weight. But what if there is no enough time for that. Then, the most prudent thing to do is to resort to the last minute weight loss measures. You should resort to the fat free breakfasts and cut your dinner absolutely. If you feel hungry by the evening or night have a lot of water and if the carving still persists you could have fruits. But while consuming fruits as well watch how much you are eating. Hogging of fruits would not help your reduce weight. Now, for the fat you have already accumulated needs to go. For that there is no other way but to exercise. Join a gym and exercise as much as possible. The best way to reduce weight is to resort to those exercises that would target particular places where you just can’t afford to have fat. The rest could be worked upon later. Have a personal trainer appointed who could direct you about the specific exercises that could get you the desired results. And in no time you would see the result of your last minute weight loss efforts.

Stem Cell Nutrition: The Way Forward?

You may or may not know that we produce our OWN stem cells…but first things first, let’s clear up what are stem cells before we go any further.

Stem cells are sometimes, appropriately, referred to as ‘master’ or ‘blank’ cells. They are the basic cells from which all other, more specialised cells develop and there are two basic types of stem cells – embryonic stem cells (that are found in embryos) and adult stem cells (that are found in adults).

Currently controversy surrounds the use of embryonic stem cells but no such controversy exists where adult stem cells are concerned, because these cells occur naturally in our bodies.

In fact production of stem cells is found to take place throughout the body, although this production occurs most importantly in the bone marrow.

In intimate partnership with the immune system and the cleansing system, adult stem cell production comprises an integral part of the body’s rejuvenation and renewal processes.

The body is in a constant state of renewal, with cells continually dying and being replaced by new cells of the same kind. But each new cell is formed from the basic template of a stem cell.

Stem cells are able to develop into many different types of cell and when one divides, each new cell thus formed has the potential to either remain a stem cell or transform into another type of cell with a specialized function, such as a brain cell, skin cell or a red blood cell.

When released, new stem cells assist problem areas of the body by dividing to produce specialized cells that are required to replace specialized cells that have died. Stem cells can theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells as long as the body is alive.

One aspect of this ongoing renewal process is that stem cells help with repair to damaged tissue. When a tissue becomes damaged it sends out chemical signals that attract the stem cells to the injured area. Then, by dividing and producing new cells of the type required, the stem cells then provide a repair function.

This rejuvenation-repair role becomes increasingly important to us as we grow older. This of course begs the question as to how and why we age when out bodies continue as they do to produce rejuvenative stem cells?

It looks increasingly as if scientific research has yielded some answers because aging – as science has begun to prove in the last few years – is solidly linked to what is known as “Oxidative Stress” (OS). OS is the process by which the cells and organs – which are essentially colonies of cells – become damaged from long-term exposure to free radicals.

This Oxidative Stress, a process of degeneration that is to the cells much as rusting is to iron (and explained in my free book on Wild Blue-Green Algae available from Freedom Plaza), is linked to just about any degenerative disease you can think of: for example, autoimmune disorders, all types of cancers, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, and most skin disorders and very many more. Most of the physical signs of aging you see on people or indeed yourself when you look in the mirror, wrinkles, sagging skin, and so on are directly due to the chronic cellular damage cause the OS process.

Scientific research has now uncovered the fact that OS can also inhibit the production of adult stem cells. It also inhibits the ability to function of the stem cells that are produced to function as healthy new cells in our bodies.

This effect of oxidative stress upon stem cells may in fact be one of the missing links in our understanding of aging and thus our ability to alleviate the ravages of time upon the body.

Skin Nutrition and Acne

Part One – Acne Defined

When most of us think of acne we think of adolescence. Acne has been becoming a more persistant adult problem. But teenagers do make up the largest percent of acne sufferers,. Acne probles are common in more tha a quarter of the male population and half of the female population. These figures seem to be climbing.

Acne Defined

Acne is composed of skin blemishes which are associated with the accumulation of sebum in hair follicles, the tiny holes we commonly call pores. Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands deep within each pore and it can take two or three weeks before it reaches the skins surface. Sebum is the oil that keeps your skin moist and supple. As the skin regenerates itself, old cells die, mix with your skins natural oils and slough off.

Sometimes dead cells become sticky, clumping together and can plug the exits of pores. This traps oil and bacteria inside the pore which then swells as your skin continues its normal oil production and skin sloughing which can not escape. A bacteria infection can ensue and results in a skin blemish.

Types of Acne

There are basically two different categories of acne, non inflammatory and inflammatory.

Non Inflammatory Acne

A closed white head occurs when the plug in the pore remains unseen below the surface of the skin. These lesions commonly appear on the skin as small, whitish bumps.

An open whitehead or blackhead occurs when the plug enlarges and pushes through the surface of the skin. The plugs dark appearance is due to a buildup of melanin, the skin’s dark pigment, not dirt as commonly thought.

Inflammatory Acne

A papule is the mildest form of inflationary acne. It appears on the skin as firm, small pink bumps. These are usually tender to the touch, and are often considered an intermediary step between non-inflationary and inflationary acne.

Pustules are small lesions that are clearly inflamed and contain visible pus. They appear with a yellowish or whitish center and red around the base. The inflation is generally caused by chemical irritation from sebum components Such as free fatty acids and infection is almost always present.

Nodules or cysts are large, pus-filled, inflamed lesions lodged deep in the lower layers of the skin. They develop when a comedon has ruptured and its contents have leaked into the surrounding tissue below the surface of the skin (often the results of an unsuccessful squeeze). The most severe form of acne may persist for weeks or months with their contents hardening into a deep cyst. Both cysts and nodules can leave deep scares.

Acne conglobata is rare, but a serious form of inflammatory acne that primarily develops on the chest buttocks and back. In addition to nodules and pustules, there may be severe bacterial infection which can track latteraly through the layers of the skin and cause boils or furuncles.

Who Gets Acne? More than 90% of all adolescents are affected by acne, and nearly 50% of adults. It is one of the most wide spread medical conditions in the world.

Something To Help

Fortunately you do not have to live with acne. There is always something you can do to improve the health of your skin. Of course your doctor’s advice can be invaluable, but don’t forget to discuss the possible side effects that normally accompany the long term use of drugs. A naturalpathic doctor will give you other alternatives. There are many plants with anti bacterial and anti inflammatory properties. And a third way to find solutions is to do a search on the internet. There are several direct sales companies with quality products promising to help acne problems.
