Are You Buying The Right Antiaging Products?

There are so many anti-aging products on the market today that is can be quite overwhelming trying to determine the right product for your specific skin care needs. Additionally, trail and error in selecting your anti-aging product can get expensive and frustrating.

Before your step out on your venture for the right anti-aging product, consider these tips.

First and foremost, know your skin type. Is your skin dry, oily, normal, combination (oily in the T-zone but dry otherwise), and/or sensitive? Knowing your skin type is a crucial step in selecting the right anti-aging product.

Secondly, make a list of what your anti-aging cream should do for your complexion. Are you battling dark spots and age spots, or it is it fine lines and wrinkles. Is your complexion troubled with an uneven skin tone? Once you have determined the skin care issues you want to address, select your product accordingly.

For instance, if dark spots or age spots add years to your complexion, look for creams that are rich with D3PA (Dithiolane-3-Pentanoic Acid). D3PA alias Dithiolane-3-Pentanoic Acid claims to be a fast-acting anti-wrinkle treatment, loaded with antioxidants and decreases hyper pigmentation. Additionally, you could try a product with Hydroquinone which lightens the skin in two ways – It inhibits the production of melanin (the pigment responsible for the darkening of skin and actual skin color) and it breaks down the existing excess melanin on the spots that require treatment.

If fine line and wrinkles are a problem consider creams rich in AH3 (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3). AH3 supposedly relaxes facial tension leading to the reduction in facial lines and wrinkles with regular use. This remotely resembles the effect of Botox, which reduces facial tension and movement by paralyzing facial muscles.

Just to name a few, some of the best ingredients in anti-aging products are: alpha hydroxyl acids – (read my article on which alpha hydroxyl is right for your skin type). Retinol – which is a Vitamin A based derivatives – Retinol speeds up cell turnover, which means new skin cells come to the surface. Additionally, it has been observed to reduce the size of wrinkles. Look for forms of retinol such as retinal palmitate in wrinkle creams. This ingredient works to give your face an overall youthful glow, however some people do experience sun sensitivity to retinol and should only be used at bedtime and a sunscreen should be applied in the a.m. Vitamins C, E, and K also prove helpful in anti-aging products.

There are many anti-aging creams available that contain artificial ingredients, whether they are better or not compared to natural ingredients is not the scope of this article. However, I do believe that synthetic ingredients in anti-aging products have unknown side effects down the road. Therefore, I am a firm believer of natural products made from botanicals, marine plant extracts, sea salts, and homemade facials with various common kitchen ingredients. When shopping for your anti-aging cream, look for natural ingredients such as aloe Vera, honey, or jojoba oil to name a few, all of these ingredients have nourishing properties. Consider clay masks or seaweed mask for extra nourishment or citrus masks for skin lightening.

Next time you purchase your next anti-aging product be prepared to understand what you are buying and know the side effects of the ingredients, if any.

Breast Augmentation: Which Type is Right For You?

Due to extreme advances in medicine, there are several types of breast augmentation available today. Reasons for breast augmentation are aesthetics, breast reconstruction after cancer or to correct deformations, breast reconstruction to replace dangerous, old implants, or as part of sex reassignment. Both men and women can have breast augmentation or reductions. Breast augmentation is the most common form of plastic surgery in the United States. With all the advancements in medicine and the popularity of this type of surgery soaring, many men and women are considering having this procedure performed. The question of what type of surgery would be best for you beg to be answered.

The two most common types of breast augmentation implants are saline and silicone gel. Other types of implants used in the past were polypropylene string and soy oil filled implants. It is sometimes recommended that these implants be replaced, due to safety issues.

While there isn’t much choice in type of implants offered, there are a wide variety of incision types. The most common is called an inframammary incision, which is to say an incision just below the breast in the infra-mammary fold. This procedure is most common due to the fact that placement of the implant is easiest and most precise using this method. Some women opt not to use this method though, as breasts that do not drape over the infra-mammary fold will show a more visible scar than with other methods.

The periareolar incision is one that places the incision along the areolar border. If using silicone gel implants, this type of surgery is more difficult that an inframammary incision due to the fact that the actual incision length is approximately five centimeters in length. The biggest advantage to this type of incision is that scaring after healing is minimal.

The transaxillary incision is an incision in the armpit, whereby the implant is tunneled into the breast for proper placement. With this type of incision there is no scaring on the breasts, but placement is much more difficult. Revisions of the surgery are sometimes required.

Transumbilical incisions are much more uncommon. This technique requires the surgeon to incise the navel and tunnel up from the stomach into the breast. There is no scaring of the breast, but the surgery is much more difficult and recovery takes longer and is more painful. Only saline filled implants may be used with this procedure, as silicone implant’s shells can be damaged during placement of the implant.

As with any surgery, there are risks and rewards. An excellent surgeon should be your only choice. To find the best cosmetic surgeon, Los Angeles is a good place to start. Makes sure your choice of surgeon has excellent references, is well known, board certified and insured. Dr. Calvert, known from appearances and philanthropic work associated with the Tyra Show, fulfills all these requirements.

How to Eat Healthy The Right Way

The thing is, I love to eat. So going on a diet is a huge thing for me. But a person gotta to do what a person has to do. And yes, I have to lose weight. My weight was in danger zone already.

In fact, it is imperative for overweight people to lose weight. Unfortunately, losing weight is not as easy to achieve as one might desire. Millions of overweight and obese people are still struggling to lose weight. Many have gone on crash diets with the hope of shedding those stubborn pounds and kilos. And most of the time, these diets ended disastorously. Worse still, many more piled on more pounds and kilos. Trust me, this is truly demoralising.

The best way (and only way, one might supports) of losing way is to eat healthily. However, it is a common misconception that healthy eating is bland, boring and difficult to practise. Truth is, you don’t have to be qualified in nutrition to make it part of your daily living. Another misconception is that healthy eating is only about restrictions. Draconian-rules’ like -no salt, no sugar, no fats, no this, or no that – only serve to further mystify everyone.

By the same token, there are some parties that propagate trendy diet regimes or insist upon -special food – based on dubious scientific evidence, if at all any! When people get the wrong idea about healthy eating, they reject it (can you blame them?). By rejecting, they are only depriving themselves of one of life’s pleasures, or end up compromising their health.

So, what should you eat? How much should you eat? Can you be sure of meeting your nutritional needs?

According to Professor Dr Mohd Ismail Noor, a nutritionist, is the chairman of the Technical Working Group On Nutritional Guidelines, president of the Malaysian Association For The Study of Obesity, and vice-president of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia, the basic concept is to eat according to our needs and maintain a well-balanced diet.

Dr Ismail says that when talking of healthy eating, one must look at the Food Guide Pyramid.
The Food Pyramid, with its recommended servings, represents what the diet and nutrition experts consider to be the most solid, reliable, well-researched thinking to date. It provides a good model for healthy eating. The basic pyramid, developed by the USDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is only one model, however. This pyramid has been adapted for ethnic preferences and there are now pyramids for the Mediterranean diet, the Asian diet and the Latin American diet. Other diets, such as the Hawaiian diet, can also be placed on a food pyramid.

Dr Ismail stresses that the Food Guide Pyramid is not as sensational as some new-fangled diet ideas that are abound. It is based and validated by scientific research. Compelled by the evidence, the World Health Organisa-tion (WHO), governments and mainstream health professionals are happy to acknowledge that it’s safe and sensible. More importantly, it is proven to work by helping people eat right for good health.

Admittedly, there are other dietary systems out there but they are mostly developed for people with health conditions. Some are associated with health risks or side effects that are usually not mentioned.

However, if you are generally healthy and want to stay that way, take this simple advice: follow the Food Guide Pyramid. In other words, your daily meals should consist more of the foods from the lower levels of the Pyramid and the least from the upper levels. It’s amazingly simple.

Tips For Choosing The Right Moisturizer

Everyday our face is bombarded with free radicals (pollution), exposed to UVA and UVB rays, and extreme weather conditions. Applying moisturizer before you start your day not only moisturizes as the name implies but it also protects your skin.

We all know that we need to moisturize and protect our skin everyday, but the hard part is finding the right moisturizer that works for you. There are numerous questions that need to be addressed when selecting your moisturizer. Some of these questions are: Do I need a lotion or a cream? What ingredients should I avoid if I have sensitive skin? My skin is already oily; won’t a moisturizer make my skin oilier? With so many questions and so many products to choose from selecting the right moisturizer can be frustrating.

Below are some tips to help you select the right moisturizer for your facial skin type.

Do I need a lotion or a cream? Dry skin is usually best hydrated with a cream rich in emollients. These usually come in the form of creams. For daytime wear your moisturizer should have a SPF of at least 15 even during the winter months. For nighttime go with an emollient rich cream and stay clear of harsh cleansers. Oily skin is best served with a light gel or lotion. Again, for daytime it should include an SPF too.

What ingredients should I avoid if I have sensitive skin? For those with sensitive skin, the most common skin irritants are fragrances, dyes, lanolin, and the preservatives parabens and formaldehyde. Consider doing a patch test prior to a full application on the face. For those with sensitive skin even natural ingredients such as aloe, almond oil, etc., can cause allergic reactions or topical skin dermatitis.

My skin is already oily; won’t a moisturizer make my skin oilier? A moisturizer protects the skin and well as hydrate, because hydrated skin feels better. Think water content in the skin not oil. Consider a light lotion or gel that is oil free is recommended. Select a product that is water-based and is labeled noncomedogenic. If you are using products to dry up excess oil a moisturizer is needed to relieve dryness and flakiness. The more harsh products you use to dry up excess oil, the more oil your skin will produce. Think gentle when considering a skin treatment; a homemade skin care recipe such as an oatmeal mask or clay mask will do wonders to absorb oil.
